The magazine accepts submissions FOR FREE in the months of January, March, May, July, September, and November. It will be published online near the end of every off month.
FOR PREVIOUS CONTRIBUTORS:
We love you and your work, so we'll accept your stuff during any open submission period. However, if accepted, you may not be published until at least one issue has passed since your last publication with us.
WE DON'T WANT YOUR PROBLEMATIC/HATEFUL GARBAGE.
Crêpe & Penn will not tolerate any works that contain any form of hate speech or unresolved sexual violence. This includes but is not limited to homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, incestuous, and/or xenophobic material. If you send us that BS, you will NEVER be published with us. We mean it. It will not be tolerated. Period. Seriously. Don't send it to us.
WE ACCEPT SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS AND PUBLISHED WORKS.
We accept simultaneous submissions and previously published work as long as it has only been published by ONE other magazine/journal and you have permission from that publisher. If your submission is accepted by another publisher, let us know, and feel free to send another work in its place.
YOU MAY SUBMIT TO MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY.
We want to see what you can do. So, send any combination of categories you wish!
FORMAT YOUR SUBMISSION EMAIL CORRECTLY.
When submitting via email, put your name and category of entry in the subject line. This means you need to send a separate email for each category, not for every entry, just every category. Please, include a cover letter in the body of your email. This can include how you discovered the magazine, the title(s) of your work(s) and what inspired it, or maybe even why you feel this magazine would be a good home for your work. Your cover letter should not, however, include a bio. We will ask for a bio upon acceptance. Blank emails will be ignored.
MAKE SURE WE CAN OPEN YOUR DOCUMENT.
For written submissions, we accept Word documents, Google Docs and PDFs (.doc/.docx/.gdoc/.pdf). If your work has typography, it is encouraged that you send a PDF to confirm the formatting. Art submissions are accepted in the following formats: .jpeg/.jpg/.png.
WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT'S WHAT.
Please, make sure the beginnings of separate works are clear by italicizing, underlining or emboldening the titles. You may also put each work on a separate page.
You can submit up to five poems per submission period -- any topic or form (prose, experimental, whatever). One page, single spaced is the limit. Typography is allowed, of course, but keep in mind we need to be able to read it... unless that's the point? Hmmm... Anyway, we like things that move us, nothing particular beyond that.
Your essay should be in a legible font and size. The topic is totally up to you, but please, keep the word count to 1,500 or less. Put your word count on the first page. Submit no more than two essays in one submission period.
Your story can go wherever your heart takes it, but it better take it there in a legible font and size. Double-spaced is preferred but not mandatory. The word count shouldn't go over 700. Put your word count at the top of the first page. You may send two short fiction works. We like stories that leave us pondering for days.
PHOTOGRAPHY + VISUAL ART
Any medium or style goes! You can send up to ten works of art or photography. You can send just the photo, or you can put it in a document and add a caption as well.
